New NodeBox forum

Dear community,

It's been a long time coming, but our current Tender forum is getting long in the tooth. They also recently made some changes that blocked downloads of ZIP files, which is quite crucial for sharing projects.

A preview of the new forum is here:

It is currently still read-only, until we move over. Feel free to give feedback in this thread, and I'll do my best to work on it.
If you have an account on the current forum, logging in with your email will send a link to activate your account on the new forum.

Plan is to do the switch next week Wednesday. Until then, use the current forum and we'll import everything right before the switch over.

Wow. Very impressive. Having like and react buttons is a huge step forward. This is a breath of fresh air.

One thing to clarify. You said that we can log in to activate our accounts on the new forum. Did you mean after we go fully live next Wednesday? Because I just tried it on the read-only version and got an error.

Once we are up and running, you can count on me for suggestions. One I see already would be to surface MP4s as clickable previews that would play inline (instead of having to download in order to view). The old forum did this and it was handy. Not a huge deal but nice to have.

One thing to think about is showing a view count.

A more involved change would be to provide a different layout template for the Share Your Work category. Entries here are less about asking questions and more about showing surprising things that Nodebox can do. Posts there could be more engaging - and attract more participation - if the media generated, especially PNGs and MP4s, could be front and center. More like a shared portfolio of work by the community.

That would obviously take some thought and work, but now that we have control over our own forum, it's the kind of thing we could do!

love the colors.

I’m curious to see what possibilities it offers—
for example, upvoting posts.

Nice new update. Does it support RSS feeds? The main way I keep up with interesting NodeBox information is via RSS. It would be wonderful if there was a feed for latest posts.

@John Logging in on the new forum with your current email address should work, if you have any errors let me know. You should be able to set your name + email there.

@John I think attachments like screenshots etc should preview inline or as a popup, let's see if we can fix this

@John I like the idea of the gallery for the "Show your work" but let's park that for a bit, a bit too busy for now :-)

When I try logging in by entering my email and press the "Email me a sign-in link" button, I get a new page that just says "forbidden". I am running in Safari on Mac Sonoma.

As for attachments, PNGs and screenshots worked fine from the beginning. I see that an MP4 I attached now shows as a preview which runs the video when clicked. Yay! One thing, though (there's always one more thing): could you make it auto loop? Maybe automatically loop if it's under 30 secs? The only thing I ever post are short looping animations, and they look pretty lame when they only run once.

As for a Show Your Work gallery, yes, by all means, let's park that for now till we get everything else up and running.

@John could you try again? I think this might be a Safari thing, I tweaked the security headers.

I also added (muted) looped autoplay for short videos.

It works! I signed in with no difficulties.

The looping autoplay also works! Muting is fine - that's how it should be for autoplay and all of my videos are muted anyway. You're on fire!
