It appears that a Movie Export with a width of at least somewhere between 5001 – 6000 pixels results in a no result. Though it obviously becomes rendered in the preview window up to its last frame it finally lacks in NB's additional step of converting to movie.
The export process/preview works fine (titled in the export window as "Exporting (x) frames").
Then it just does not do the final process (titled in the export window as "Converting frames to movie").
p.s.: where does NB store its export 'temp' file on mac? could i use it to convert it to movie with another app?

There could be a preset limit, probably related to FFMPEGs memory limits.
To encode the frames yourself, just use the Export Range command. This is your best option if you want to create huge videos or weird export settings.

Yes, might be: I tried to recompress an exported video in Adobe Media Encoder. When setting its width to 5100 pixel I got an error message and the value was auto-set to 4096 isnstead. So this might be the limit for H264. - A table with the max resolutions: http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/H.264 (croll down to "Level").
Now I wonder what movie setting NB does use - since I did get one movie succesfully exported with more than 4096 px.
